WHAT is the aim of the courses?

The aim of the Cochrane Training Courses is to build awareness and capacity in conducting systematic review in the island of Ireland.  The HRB and the HSC Research & Development Division in Northern Ireland (HSC R&D Division), in association with the Training Team of the UK Cochrane Centre, offer two short courses on a number of dates in 2012.

WHAT training courses are on offer?

Two short courses will be run on a number of dates in 2012.

'Introduction to Cochrane'  This half-day course will train individuals working in the health and social care area with little or no previous experience to access and use the Cochrane Library. The course will improve the participants' knowledge of evidence-based healthcare and will cover the principles and practice of Cochrane systematic reviews.

'Cochrane Systematic Review Course'  This intensive two-day course will cover systematic review methodologies and critical appraisal skills. The course is suitable for individuals working in the health and social care area who require a more detailed knowledge of systematic reviews and who may be thinking of conducting a systematic review themselves.

WHERE are these courses taking place?

The half-day training courses are scheduled for:

  • Dublin (21 May 2012)
  • Galway (13 June 2012)
  • Belfast (19 June 2012)

The proposed dates and venues for these 2-day courses are as follows:

  • Cork (26 & 27 June 2012)
  • Belfast (7 & 8 August 2012)
  • Galway (18 & 19 September 2012)
  • Dublin (23 & 24 October 2012)

HOW can you register for a place on these training courses?

Application for these free courses must be made through the HRB online eGrants system. Full details and guidance notes are available at the links below.

Applicants will be informed about their success in attaining a place on these courses and will receive confirmation of training dates as soon as possible following receipt of application.

WHEN is the DEADLINE for applications?

The deadline is 12.00 noon on Friday, 20 April 2012 and applications will not be accepted after this deadline.
