What is the aim of the courses?

The aim of the Cochrane Training Courses is to build awareness and capacity in conducting systematic review in the island of Ireland. The HRB and the HSC Research & Development Division in Northern Ireland (HSC R&D Division), in association with the Training Team of the UK Cochrane Centre, offer two short courses on a number of dates in 2014.

What training courses are on offer?

Two short courses will be run on a number of dates in 2014.

'Introduction to Cochrane' - This half-day course will train individuals working in the health and social care area with little or no previous experience to access and use the Cochrane Library. The course will improve the participants' knowledge of evidence-based healthcare and will cover the principles and practice of Cochrane systematic reviews.

'Cochrane Systematic Review Course' - This intensive two-day course will cover systematic review methodologies and critical appraisal skills. The course is suitable for individuals working in the health and social care area who require a more detailed knowledge of systematic reviews and who may be thinking of conducting a systematic review themselves.

Where are these courses taking place?

The proposed dates and venues for the half day courses are as follows:

·         Belfast - 16th May 2014

·         Dublin - 3rd June 2014

·         Galway - 17 June 2014

·         Cork - Date TBC

The proposed dates and venues for the 2-day courses are as follows:

·         Cork – 19th & 20th June

·         Belfast – 5th & 6th August

·         Galway – 3rd & 4th September

·         Dublin – 14th & 15th October

How can you apply for a place on these training courses?

Applications must be submitted on the appropriate HRB application form. Application forms and guidance notes are available at the links below.

Applicants will be informed about their success in attaining a place on these courses as soon as possible after the deadline.

When is the deadline for applications?

The deadline is 13.00 noon on Tuesday 01 April 2014 and applications will not be accepted after this deadline.
