International Strategic Initiatives

The HRB is collaborating in a number of international activities. These range from the Autism Genome Project to the European Biobanking Initiative (an ESFRI  project).

Together with the HSE the HRB supports the Irish Clinical Research Infrastructure Network ICRIN which is part of the European network ECRIN.

An important initiative is the Ireland-Northern Ireland-National Cancer Institute Cancer Consortium established in 1999, which has the goal of reducing the incidence and mortality of cancer in both parts of Ireland by building research capacity and infrastructure on the island of Ireland. The external website for the consortium can be found here.

In the area of Global Health we have a mandate from Irish Aid to manage the Global Health Research Awards, where partnership and capacity-building with developing countries is a prerequisite for funding researchers. Furthermore we have an active role in the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnerships EDCTP, which is bearing fruit in the form of funding for clinical trials in poverty-related diseases.

Further information on these initiatives are available through the links provided to the "Strategic Initiatives" section.
