Professor Charles Normand

Charles Normand is an economist and is the Edward Kennedy Professor of Health Policy and Management at Trinity College Dublin.  He is Chair of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and is vice chair of the Board at St James’s Hospital.  Previously he was Professor of Health Economics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Principal Economist for Health and Social Services in the Northern Ireland Civil Service and worked at the Universities of Stirling and York and the Queen’s University of Belfast.

His main research interests are in economic evaluation in cancer prevention and treatment, financing, organisation and delivery of health care and the effects of population ageing on health systems.  Much of his work is on economic aspects of palliative and end of life care. He is co-principal investigator on the Irish Longitudinal Study of Ageing (TILDA).
