Health Information & In-House Research

Welcome to the Health Information and In-House Research Directorate

This Directorate manages all the HRB’s national health information systems and in-house research. The Directorate comprises four specialist units:

  • Alcohol and Drug Research Unit
  • Child Health Epidemiology Unit
  • Disability Databases Unit
  • Mental Health Research Unit

The HRB supports health information systems and in-house research in the area of alcohol and drugs, child health, disability and mental health. This provides the knowledge needed to plan, develop and evaluate health services and to formulate health policy. This in turn provides higher quality health care, in an efficient and effective manner, for the population.

Supporting research and health information systems linked to national health priorities in order to improve people’s health and the effectiveness of the health system is a key strategic objective in the HRB’s Corporate Strategy 2007-2011, the National Health Information Strategy and the Department of Health and Children’s Statement of Strategy 2008-2010.
