						<title>Principles and Practice of Cancer Prevention - Participant Meet-Up</title>

						<description><![CDATA[This July, seven participants from Ireland and Northern Ireland will travel to Washington to participate in a four-week course on concepts, issues and applications in the field of cancer prevention (<link https://cpfp.cancer.gov/summer/summer.php>https://cpfp.cancer.gov/summer/summer.php</link>). This prestigious programme is run by the National Cancer Institute and is part of the All Ireland Cancer Consortium activities (<span lang="EN-US"><link http://www.allirelandnci.org/>www.allirelandnci.org</link>)</span>. 

Irish participants of the Principles and Practice of Cancer Prevention and Control will gather in Dublin for an informal meet-up before starting their four-week course in Washington. Participants will have an opportunity to meet with alumni of the course and learn from their experience of the programme and implementation of the course content. 

Speakers will include Maeve Cusack (National Cancer Screening Service), Mary Jackson (Department of Health and Children) and Sharon Glynn (Prostate Cancer Institute).

						<title>EU Clinical Research funding: Lessons learned and upcoming opportunities</title>

						<description><![CDATA[The purpose of the workshop is to showcase the current opportunities for clinical researchers in Ireland to engage in EU funded clinical research, along with lessons learned from participation to date. Detailed information on the various supports available to assist applicants from Ireland will also be presented.
Among the speakers will be 
<ul><li>Dr Jacques Demotes-Mainard of the European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (ECRIN) and </li><li>Dr Beatrice Lucaroni from the European Commission, detailing the Commission’s commitment to supporting clinical research. </li></ul>
There will also be&nbsp;presentations from members of the Irish clinical research community: 
<ul><li>Dr Gene Dempsey (CUH) on participation in EU funded clinical research projects and </li><li>Professor Martin O'Donnell&nbsp;(NUIG) on developments in international clinical research.</li></ul>]]></description>
