Providing support for dementia carers

14 April 2016

Two short videos help connect the dots between research and action.

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland are launching today two short videos aimed at providing support for dementia carers.

'These videos were produced with funding from a special HRB award scheme that seeks to enhance the transfer of research findings into health policy, clinical practice and public knowledge', says Graham Love, Chief Executive at the HRB.

'A cornerstone of our new strategy is to support research that addresses questions of national relevance and the translation of research results into policy and / or practice. These videos are clear examples of our commitment to see the research that we fund translated into real benefits for people'.

The videos contain practical advice for carers that arose from the findings of an earlier research project that was co-funded by the HRB and the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland in collaboration with the Medical Research Charities Group. This earlier project investigated caregiver stress and ways to reduce harm from it. The videos deal with the topics of how to deal with caregiver stress, and how to deal with challenging behaviours. They can be viewed at the links below. A press release is available from the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland website, link also below.

These videos were one of 47 Knowledge Exchange and Dissemination Scheme (KEDS) awards that the HRB made recently. Full details of all those awards can be found in the 'Speeding up the appliance of science' link underneath.
