Youth colouring book takes a 'journey through the brain'

6 October 2016

Dr Graham Love, Chief Executive at the Health Research Board (HRB) said, 'This colouring book 'journey through the brain' shows that research and creativity do go hand-in-hand. The purpose of our Knowledge Exchange and Dissemination Scheme (KEDS) awards is to share research with a wider audience and apply new learning in practice – this book has achieved this magnificently'.

Professor David Cotter, RCSI Department of Psychiatry, said,

'‘journey through the brain’ can play an important role in promoting well-being, as well encouraging learning about how the science behind how the brain works. Young people who use the book are encouraged to colour in the artwork on each page, something that has been found to have beneficial effects on people’s sense of well-being. Colouring can induce a state of calmness and distract people from their anxieties or worries'.

The book will be available to download from the RCSI website (rcsi.ie/brainjourney) and hard copies will be distributed to a number of schools.

More information is available from the press release on the RCSI website.
