HRB-funded research paper wins at RAMI Doctor Awards 2013

Professor Colum Dunne, Faculty of Education and Health Sciences, University of Limerick won the best paper award in the General Practice category at the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland (RAMI) award ceremony in Dublin last night.
?The HRB is committed to funding top-quality health research that is likely to have an impact on patient care and the health services that they receive,? says Enda Connolly, the Chief Executive at the HRB.
The winning paper examined Psychosocial interventions to reduce alcohol consumption in concurrent problem alcohol and illicit drug users. The authors were Jan Klimas, Catherine-Anne Field, Walter Cullen, Clodagh SM O'Gorman, Liam G Glynn, Eamon Keenan, Jean Saunders, Gerard Bury, Colum Dunne.

The other two finalists in the GP category were:
- Cardiovascular medication: improving adherence, which was published in Clinical Evidence in the BMJ Group.
- Trimethoprim and ciprofloxacin resistance and prescribing in urinary tract infection associated with Escherichia coli: a multilevel model, which was published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.
