Neurodegenerative disease research - latest developments discussed in Dublin

Leading Irish and European experts in neurodegeneration research are meeting today (Friday 1 March) to discuss future research directions and opportunities to collaborate internationally.

The meeting will comprise of an overview of the latest developments in basic and clinical research in Ireland and internationally, before exploring new opportunities for international collaboration on research in this area.

A selection of leading Irish researchers will showcase their most recent findings.

International speakers include Joint Programming in Neurodegenerative Disease (JPND)* Chairman, Professor Philippe Amouyel, Dr Rob Buckle, Medical Research Council, UK, and Professor Philip Scheltens, VU University Medical Center, the Netherlands. The programme for the meeting is available to download below. 

The HRB has played a prominent role in the pilot JPND initiative, with HRB Chief Executive Enda Connolly a member of both the Executive and Management Boards from the outset.

*JPND is the largest global research initiative aimed at tackling the challenge of neurodegenerative diseases. JPND aims to increase coordinated investment between participating countries in research aimed at finding causes, developing cures, and identifying appropriate ways to care for those with neurodegenerative diseases.
