SFI-HRB Wellcome Trust Biomedical Partnership logo

The objective of the information day is to highlight the Wellcome Trust?s Strategic Plan 2010-20 and to raise awareness of the Wellcome Trust funding opportunities available to the Irish research community, particularly under the Partnership. A selection of successful Wellcome Trust award recipients from Ireland will present their perspective on the influence of Trust funding on their careers and research programmes.

Wellcome Trust?s Dr John Williams (Head of Clinical Activities, and Neuroscience and Mental Health) and Dr Shewly Choudhury (Basic Careers Portfolio Advisor) will lead two breakout workshops to providecareer stage-specific information on Trust funding opportunities for senior and early-career researchers.

Please note that the Breakout Workshops require a separate additional registration to the main programme. Breakout Workshop 1 is ?invite only? and Breakout Workshop 2 requires prior registration due to space limitations.

Breakout Workshops
Workshop 1:

Securing Wellcome Trust Funding as an Established Senior Researcher with Dr John Williams.

Wellcome Trust Invitees will be briefed on the Wellcome Trust support available for established senior researchers including Investigator Awards, Senior Fellowships and Strategic Awards. Dr Williams will particularly focus on the Investigator Award Programme, in terms of its objectives, eligibility, length and scale of support, and the associated application process. There will be an opportunity to discuss what makes a strong application to the Wellcome Trust. Invitees will be updated on the wider strategic priorities and future directions of the Wellcome Trust.    

Workshop 2:

Propelling your Early-Career Research with Wellcome Trust Funding with Dr Shewly Choudhury.

Wellcome Trust Participants will be briefed on the Wellcome Trust support available for early-career researchers including Fellowships (basic and non-clinical), New Investigator Awards and a number of schemes open to Irish researchers that fall outside the remit of the Partnership. Dr Choudhury will discuss the objectives, eligibility, length and scale of support and the application process associated with these schemes, and also offer some tips and pitfalls to avoid for a competitive grant application.
