Compensation and Benefits Package
Salary
Salary scales in the HRB are aligned to health board incremental salary scales. Employees also receive the relevant increases approved by the Government through National Partnership negotiations.
Hours of work
The HRB supports family friendly working arrangements through a 35-hour working week.
Pension scheme
Membership of the Local Government Superannuation Scheme is mandatory for all new employees of the HRB. It is a defined benefits scheme.
Annual leave
Annual leave entitlement is set out in the contract of employment. These range from 22 days to 30 days. The leave year runs from 1 January to 31 December. In addition to statutory and annual leave, the HRB grants leave on Good Friday and on two Privilege Days.
Training and development support
The HRB is a strong supporter of training, development and further education for staff and aims to make 4 per cent of payroll costs available annually. All staff agree an individual development plan with their manager. Further education is encouraged through the payment of fees for further education courses relevant to an employee’s job or development.
Educational support and study leave
The HRB provides study leave to employees undertaking relevant educational courses. Staff will be granted one week of paid study leave per annum in addition to leave for examinations.
Membership of professional bodies
The HRB also reimburses an employee for the cost of membership of one relevant professional body.
Health insurance benefits
The HRB has group schemes with the VHI and Quinn Healthcare. The subscription year runs from November and deductions are made monthly through salaries.
Car parking / Tax saver commuter tickets
The HRB has some car parking spaces in their offices, which are allocated to staff (other than Heads of Division) on a service basis. The HRB supports the Tax saver commuter tickets.
Sick leave
Paid sick leave of up to six months will be allowed to permanent employees and on a pro-rata basis to temporary employees of the HRB. One month sick leave is allowed during the first year.
Paternity leave
Male employees are entitled to three days paid paternity leave on the birth of a child.
Compassionate leave
Three days compassionate leave, with pay, is allowed if a parent, brother or sister passes away. Five days are allowed if a spouse or child dies.
Special leave without pay
HRB employees may be granted special leave without pay, up to a maximum of two months, for urgent domestic affairs.
Marriage leave
Five days leave is given to an employee on the occasion of his/her first marriage.

In addition to the benefits above the HRB has developed the following work life balance policies and practices.
Flexible working hours
Some HRB employees may avail of the flexitime system. This enables employees to work hours that accommodate their personal needs.
Job sharing /part- time work
Job share and part time work may be available to all permanent employees, if their post is suitable for job sharing.
Teleworking
Teleworking is a family friendly practice, which can be availed of by some HRB employees. When a post is suitable for teleworking, an employee may work from an office set up at their home. This gives them the freedom to organise a proportion of working hours outside of regular office hours.
Career break
Permanent HRB employees, with a minimum of twelve months service, may be granted career breaks for child minding, certain domestic purposes, educational purposes and work abroad.
Employee assistance programme
The HRB recognises that personal problems may affect employee health or well-being. We are committed to assist an employee who may be experiencing personal problems and difficulties. The employee assistance programme will make a counselling service available to facilitate the resolution of personal problems and situations.
Workplace health and well-being programme
The HRB is committed to providing a work environment, which upholds the dignity and respect of the individual. A programme has been established to enable employees to attend courses in stress management and assertiveness training for their personal development. There are trained designated support personnel to provide a listening ear for staff.
Sports and Social Club
An active sports and social club was established to plan social events and activities for staff and their partners/friends. Some events are subsidised by the HRB.
Partnership Committee
The partnership committee is a joint staff-management established to discuss issues affecting the organisation and help improve the way the organisation operates. It provides a forum for discussion, consultation and communications.
