History of the HRB

The Health Research Board was established under the Health (Corporate Bodies) Act 1961 by SI No 279 of 1986, from the amalgamation of the Medico-Social Research Board and the Medical Research Council of Ireland. Since 1986, the HRB headquarters have been at 73 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2.

The Turnstone in our logo is a reflection of the HRB’s ongoing commitment to improve health through research and information. The Turnstone is a bird that leaves no stone unturned in pursuit of food. In the same way the HRB aims to support a constant research in the pursuit of knowledge to improve health.
