Professor Ruane is currently a member of the Higher Education Authority and was previously appointed as Associate Professor of Economics and as Director at the Policy Institute at Trinity College Dublin.

She previously held positions as Chair of the National Statistics Board and member of the board of Forfas.

She holds a BA (NUI), an MA (NUI, DU), a BPhil (Oxon) and also a DPhil (Oxon).

Professor Ruane is interested in economic policy.

Professor Ruane was appointed to the board of the HRB in June 2007.
