Former Chairman, Science Foundation Ireland

Mr Sweeney holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (B.E. Mech. and Elec.) and an MBA from University College Dublin. He was awarded an MAI (HON) from Trinity College Dublin and also holds a fellowship from the Institution of Engineers of Ireland.

Mr Sweeney has also held the following positions;

• Managing Director of Siemens Ltd.
• Vice-Chairman of ICSTI.
• Chairman of Technology Foresight of Ireland.
• President of Institution of Engineers of Ireland.
• Chairman of the Irish Health Services Accreditation Board.

He is also a board member of Trinity College Dublin.

Me Sweeney was appointed to the board of the HRB in June 2007.
