Dr Marion Rowland

Research Lead, Directorate of Quality and Clinical Care, Health Service Executive (HSE)

Dr Rowland graduated from National University of Ireland Galway in 1979 (MB, BCh, BAO).  From 1981-83  Dr Rowland worked in Nigeria as a Medical Officer providing medical and obstetric care in a 200 bed rural hospital in a densely populated area of Cross River State.

Between 1985 and 1989 she provided long-term general practitioner locums to isolated Native Indian Reservations across several provinces in Canada.

In 1993 Dr Rowland completed a Masters in Public Health at University College Dublin, and in 2004 was awarded a PhD for a thesis entitled The Epidemiology of Helicobacter pylori.

From 2002 to taking up current role, Dr Rowland was a clinical epidemiologist at the School of Medicine and Medical Science UCD and The Children's Research Centre Crumlin.

Twice invited editorial/commentary provider to the Lancet, in 2001 Dr Rowland was the overall winner at the Royal Academy of Medicine of Ireland/IJMS Awards for the best medical research publication (Low Rates of Helicobacter pylori re-infection in children Gastroenterology 1999;117:336-41 Impact Factor 13.1).

Dr Rowland was appointed to the board of the HRB in June 2010.
